Guru Purnima

"Guru, an aspiration and an inspiration."

Guru Purnima (Poornima), also known as Vyasa Purnima, is the birthday of Ved Vyasa , who was the author and the epic character of Mahabharat. It is a festival celebrated among Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists in India, Nepal, and Bhutan. Having a guru is considered one of life's greatest blessings in India.

The Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains traditionally observe this event in order to respect and appreciate their chosen spiritual gurus. Hinduism celebrates this day as a  spiritual tradition that is devoted to intellectual and spiritual gurus who have enlightened humanity and are willing to impart their wisdom in the spirit of karma yoga, with little to no expectation of reward.

The Sanskrit translation of the word "Guru" is "dispeller of darkness."

According to legend, a guru leads a disciple out of delusion and into the realm of spiritual emancipation. Enlightened gurus have always been seen as a conduit between the celestial and earthly realms—the divine and the individual. The guru shows the learners the way to enlightenment and dispels the darkness of ignorance.

Irrespective of their religions, Indian’s celebrate this day to thank their teachers and elders.
